Three and a Half Years Later
WELCOME to the fourth book of magic with Fantasio’s candles and canes! It has been 3 1/2 years since our last book, but with the new material you will find in these pages by Fantasio and others, we hope you will count it as being worth the wait!
Not only does the fourth book introduce Fantasio’s new appearing candle, but also a new co-conspirator in this cane and candle trickery. Fantasio and I met James Holmes, a young magician from Florissant, Missouri, at several conventions during the past two years. The unusual and innovative magic with canes and candles that James showed Fantasio Jed to his being awarded Fantasio’s 1980 Magic Award for best presentation with the cane and candle props.
When we learned that James was preparing a lecture on his cane and candle magic, Fantasio and I discussed the possibility of making it a part of this book series. James thought we might let it be No. 5, but we have surprised him by Jetting his material appear earlier here in Book No. 4!
Both Fantasio and I are very impressed with the James Holmes material. I think you will be too. Some of it is simple, some daring and bold. Some of it needs plenty of practice and timing, as James will tell you in the introduction proceeding his Chapters 3, 4 and 5. But, all of James’ cane and candle cricks are good magic. Try them and see.
This fourth cane and candle book has the distinction of having two illustrators. Magician friend Jim Kleefeld, who illustrated my recent Feather Flowers from Nowhere book, took care of the drawings in Chapters l and 2. Since James Holmes already had his lecture notes typed and drawn up, we decided to use James’ own drawings in the last three chapters. Thanks· to both for making the text words clear.
Preliminaries be over! Enjoy the book and the magic-just as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to you!
