In April the Academy of Magical Arts (AMA) awarded my dad, DAVID GINN, the 2017 Literary/Media Fellowship for his lifetime of magical writing. They cited his nearly 100 books and DVD publications in the field of childrens magic.
The AMA flew Dad, Mom (Lynne) and me out to Hollywood for the awards ceremony, all expenses paid. The ceremony took place in the sold out Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on April 22, with a reception at the Magic Castle afterwards.
In the theatre lobby before the show, we saw many magic celebrities including Michael Carbonaro, Siegfried (of Siegfred and Roy), and Mark Wilson of “Magic Land of Allakazam” fame. Dad actually worked for Nani and Mark Wilson as a college student 50 years ago!
David Copperfield received two lifetime achievement awards the same night, one presented to him by none other than Dick Van Dyke of “Mary Poppins” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” fame. Dad gave a four-minute acceptance speech in which he talked about his magic life, writing and the importance of entertaining and educating children with magic.
These photos are our record of this special event. In the field of magic, an AMA Fellowship is the equivalent of a motion picture Academy Award.
Take a look at our special family trip together.
